Interview Highlights:
While there's much truth to the adage that money can't buy happiness, there's no denying it's an important factor to consider when leaving or taking a job.
In this week's Resume Storyteller podcast, I had the chance to talk salary negotiations with Career Strategist & Salary Advisor Sonja Price -- who shared some jaw-dropping data and eye-opening techniques:
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฎ
* The standard norm for an annual raise -- based on company and individual performance -- is 1% to 5% each year.
* Taking a job with a new company bumps your salary by about 10% on average but can go higher.

Recognizing that every ATS system works differently and with the goal of trying to delay the salary conversation as long as possible, when applying online try to :
1) Skip the question altogether.
2) Type in "flexible" or "negotiable."
3) Enter in โ$0โ or โ$1.โ Anyone who reads this will recognize you are open to negotiation. If they are as well, this won't be a dealbreaker.

If you wait to discuss salary during your annual review -- you're too late. Leadership has met, you've been benchmarked against your peers and the funds have been earmarked.
Instead, plan ahead (as early as 3 to 12-months) by:
1) Working on the right projects - often high-visibility or stretch assignments
2) Delivering results
3) Getting exposure for the work (this means being vocal about your results)
Who knows? You might wind up qualifying for an off-cycle raise or promotion!
We discussed many more strategies and scripted responses. Hope you'll have a listen!
